Note Stuck on Processing

If a note shows the ⚡ processing indicator for more than a minute and never moves to ✅ Ready, here is how to fix it.

Normal Processing Time

AI analysis typically finishes in 2–10 seconds. URL notes or notes with large PDF attachments may take up to 30 seconds.

If a note has been spinning for more than 1–2 minutes, it is stuck.

Step 1: Refresh the Page

The most common fix. The note may have already finished processing — just the UI didn't update.

  1. Press Cmd + R (Mac) or Ctrl + R (Windows/Linux)
  2. Open the note again
  3. If the status is now ✅, you're done

Step 2: Use the Retry Button

If the note shows an ❌ error state (rather than still spinning):

  1. Open the note
  2. Click "Retry Processing" in the note detail panel
  3. Wait 5–10 seconds

Step 3: Check Your Internet Connection

A dropped connection mid-processing can leave a note stuck.

  • Verify you have internet access
  • Try opening another website
  • If on WiFi, try switching networks or restarting your router
  • Then retry from Step 2

Step 4: Duplicate and Delete

If the note remains stuck after retrying:

  1. Copy the note's content (Cmd/Ctrl + A, then Cmd/Ctrl + C)
  2. Create a new note and paste the content
  3. Delete the stuck note

The new note will go through processing fresh.

Step 5: Contact Support

If notes are consistently getting stuck (more than one in a row, or the same note fails after multiple retries):

Contact us at support@whichnotes.io

Include:

  • A description of what you were doing when it got stuck
  • Whether it happens on a specific type of content (URL, long text, attachment)
  • Your browser name and version

FAQ

Q: Will my note be lost?
A: No. Your text is saved immediately when you create a note. Only the AI analysis (connections, topics, summary) is affected by a processing failure.

Q: Does a stuck note affect other notes?
A: No. Each note processes independently.

Q: Can I use a note while it's processing?
A: Yes. You can read and edit it. Connections just won't appear until processing completes.
