How AI Connections Work

One of WhichNotes' most powerful features is its ability to automatically create meaningful connections between your notes.

How It Works

1. Note Analysis

When you save a note:

Artificial intelligence analyzes the content
Extracts main themes and topics
Identifies key concepts

2. Similarity Calculation

Your new note is compared with all existing notes
Similar topics, themes, and concepts are searched for
A similarity score is calculated for each note pair

3. Connection Creation

Notes that are similar enough are automatically linked
An explanation is generated for each connection
These connections are visualized in the graph view

Example

Let's say you created these notes:

Note 1: "Using server components in Next.js and their advantages" Note 2: "Performance optimization with React Server Components"

AI recognizes these notes are similar because:

Both are about the React ecosystem
Both contain the server components concept
Both relate to performance

Explanation: "Both notes discuss React Server Components and performance optimization"

Viewing AI Connections

Graph View

Click the "Graph" button in the top right of the main page
Your notes appear as nodes (dots)
Connections are shown as lines
Click a note to highlight connected notes

In Note Detail

When you open a note
You'll see a "Connected Notes" section in the right panel
Click to navigate to connected notes

Connection Quality

Not all connections are equal:

Strong Connection (Thick line)

Very similar content
Common themes and concepts
Similarity score: >0.7

Medium Connection (Normal line)

Related content
Some common points
Similarity score: 0.5-0.7

Weak Connection (Thin line)

Indirect relationship
Few common concepts
Similarity score: 0.3-0.5

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often are connections updated? A: When you add a new note, that note's connections are created automatically. Connections between existing notes remain stable.

Q: Can I add manual connections? A: Currently only AI automatic connections are supported. Manual connection feature may be added in future updates.

Q: Why aren't some of my notes connecting? A: Very short notes or content-wise unique notes may not get connections. Writing more detailed notes improves connection quality.

Q: What if AI processing fails? A: Rarely, AI processing may fail. In this case, the note is saved but connections aren't created. You can try again with the "Reprocess" button.

✅ Use Consistent Terminology: Use the same terms for the same concepts

✅ Provide Context: Instead of just "important meeting", write "Q4 marketing strategy meeting"
